The Cornerstone Project General Overview

The Cornerstone Project is a Three Part Project:

  • Part 1: The New PPMC Loading Dock
    • The New Loading Dock will be located between Wright Saunders/Scheie and 3910, and it will be accessed by the old "State Street" Entrance.
    • The New Loading Dock is designed to do three important things.
      • Move loading dock operations to a more internal campus location.
      • Provide additional and upgraded loading dock bays.
      • To open a viable site for the ACHP Expansion.
    • The Loading Dock Will begin in April of 2013 and be complete in July of 2013.
    • A new, larger, Oxygen Farm will be installed at the new loading dock location.
    • The Construction Site will restrict access between 3910 and Wright Saunders through the duration of the project, and there will be some impact to parking in and around the construction site.
  • Part 2:  The Penn Center for Specialty Care
    • PCSC will be in an 11-story building that is being built by the Science Center at the corner of 38th and Market.  
    • The first eight floors of the building will be the home of PCSC in the following configuration:
      • Ground Level - Retail Pharmacy, PCSC Lobby & Loading Dock Access
      • 2nd Floor - Good Shepherd Penn Partners Physical Therapy
      • 3rd Floor - GSPP Swim Therapy & PCSC Outpatient Exam Clinic
      • 4th Floor - PCSC Outpatient Exam Clinic, Logistics & Central Sterile Processing
      • 5th Floor - The Penn Presbyterian Surgery Center at PCSC (Outpatient ORs)
      • 6th Floor - PCSC Outpatient Exam Clinic & Outpatient Radiology
      • 7th Floor - PCSC Outpatient Exam Clinic & Outpatient Radiology
      • 8th Floor - PCSC Offices & Board Room
    • The radiology services available to outpatients at this location will include:
      • Digital X-Ray
      • Ultrasound
      • Mammography
      • MRI
    • PCSC will begin in September of 2012 and be complete by September of 2014
    • The PCSC Construction site will restrict lanes on 38th street, and on Filbert Street on the east side of 38th street.

  • Part 3: the Advanced Care Hospital Pavilion
    • ACHP is a six story building that will be located where current loading dock operations exist at the corner of 38th and Powelton.
    • ACHP will connect to both CUPP and Myrin.
    • ACHP will include some renovation to spaces in CUPP and Myrin.
    • ACHP will be configured in the following manner:
      • Ground Level - Expansion of Myrin ED, Expansion of CUPP Radiology, the UPHS Level-1 Trauma Center, & a guest and patient Concourse area.
      • 2nd Floor - One additional OR, Expansion of OR-8, Renovations to the Surgical Suite including a new Pharmacy, a new Pre and Post Operative Suite & a new Outpatient Surgery waiting area.
      • 3rd Floor - A 20-Bed Critical Care Unit.
      • 4th Floor - A 20-Bed Critical Care Unit.
      • 5th Floor - A future 20-Bed Critical Care Unit.
      • 6th Floor - A Mechanical Penthouse with a Trauma Helipad.
      • Externally - The existing "DaVita" Parking Lot area will become a landscaped green space at the completion of the project.
    • ACHP will begin in May of 2013.  Trauma is scheduled to open in January of 2015, with all follow up renovations complete in August of 2015.
    • The ACHP construction site will required adjusted pedestrian walkways along Powelton and 38th Street.  Likewise, the DaVita Parking Lot area will be lost during and after construction.
